How to get certified as a Political Campaigning advertiser in the U.S.
As part of our Political Campaigning Policy and our overall commitment to transparency, Twitter requires that advertisers promoting political campaigning content around U.S. Federal elections go through a certification process. Note that this process only applies to advertising related to Federal elections.
Political campaigning advertisers will be required to self-identify and certify that they are located in the U.S. Note that foreign nationals are prohibited from targeting political campaigning advertisements to the U.S.
To get started submit an application through the Ads Help Form. Note that you must have an advertiser account to get certified.
What will I need to get certified?
We will need different information based on who you are:
All advertisers applying for certification will need to provide one or more handles from which they intend to run political campaigning ads.
Advertisers need to have access to the email address linked to the handle from which they are applying.
Additional eligibility requirements
In addition to complying with all general Twitter Ads policies, handles associated with the certified ads account must adhere to the following requirements:
Profile photo, header photo, and website must be consistent with the handle’s online presence
Bio must include a website that provides valid contact info
If handle name is not related to the certified entity, the bio must include the following disclaimer: "Owned by [certified entity name]"
What happens next
Upon completion and review of the application, we’ll send a letter to the registered address to verify your location. Advertisers should then follow the instructions on the letter. Once completed, you will be allowed to promote Federal political campaigning content from eligible handles.
