Political Campaigning


Political campaigning ads refers to ads that fall under any of the criteria listed below:

  • Ads that advocate for or against a candidate or political party.
  • Ads that appeal directly for votes in an election, referendum, or ballot measure.
  • Ads that solicit financial support for an election, referendum, or ballot measure.

Political campaigning ads may only be promoted via the use of Promoted Tweets and In-Stream Video Ads; no other Twitter advertising products can be used at this time.


Political campaigning ads are permitted in Japan subject to the following restrictions:

  • Only political parties* can engage in political campaigning advertising.

*Political parties conforming to political party requirements under Japanese Political Funds Control Law.

Political campaigning advertisers must comply with applicable Japanese laws, including but not limited to those regarding disclosure and content requirements, eligibility restrictions, spending limits, reporting requirements, and blackout dates.
